We aim for methods that efficiently handle switching decisions in gas networks, focusing on models and algorithms for dealing with compressor stations. We develop methods that analyse the geometry of nonconvex polyhedral sets (i.e., feasible operating points of a compressor station) to derive hierarchical models for those sets. These are used e.g. in branch-and-bound-algorithms for MIPs/MINLPs to ensure (approximate) feasibility of the chosen operating points. As a prerequisite, we study models for the detailed switching behavior of compressor and compressor stations.
