The innovative lightweight design increasingly requires product features, which cannot be fulfilled by a single material with homogeneous properties. In order to satisfy that demand new developments and process strategies focus on hybrid materials as well as tailored blanks, which are well known from the steel industry. The presented proposal aims at the modeling of a process enabling the extrusion of flat magnesium profiles with tailored properties. On the one hand a manufacturing process of flat profiles featuring simple and complex geometry, which are composed of two magnesium alloys will be developed. On the other hand a forming process will be designed in order to produce flat magnesium profiles with locally variable profile geometries during the extrusion. The local variation of the profile geometry will be realized along both the extrusion direction and the transverse direction. The modeling of the forming processes will be performed by FE-simulation. The experimentally produced flat magnesium profiles will be analyzed by characterizing its microstructures and mechanical properties as a function of the process parameters.
