Transports of courier, express and parcel services (CEP-services) account for a high proportion of the total urban commodity transport. Due to growing e-commerce and a trend towards smaller shipments, CEP-services are increasingly relevant in cities. In the proposed research project, a multi agent model based on optimization will be developed to simulate the CEP-transports in urban areas in interaction with the overall traffic system. It supports decision making processes and assessment in transport planning, transport policy and logistics. In a scenario analysis it is demonstrated how transport policy and logistics measures could be aligned in an integrative fashion. The agglomeration region of Berlin as a political and cultural centre with prospering tertiary sector will be selected as the study area.
