The aim of the Post Graduate Program is to establish a viable basis for the interdisciplinary and international investigation of a central phenomenon of reception: The term ‘romantic', as well as the actualization of romantic ideas and practices, remains present in various social and cultural contexts of our time. A basic assumption of the program is that the period of romanticism reaches far beyond its historical origins and that it has had an effect on modern ways of interpreting the world, of self-reflection, of day-to-day living, and of aesthetic composition. To describe this impact and the processes of actualization systematically, the Post Graduate Program introducesclassical and current model theories to the field of social sciences and the humanities. In doing so, a unique framework for the analytical work of various disciplines and their heterogeneous objects of study emerges. This objective of the program is tied to an innovative supervision and training concept for Ph.D. students. The production of high-quality theses will be ensured by means of a flexible study program that is directly aligned with the progress of the dissertation and that will safeguard an overarching understanding of romanticism in research seminars and intensive workshops as well as enable candidates to distinguish themselves individually. In addition, students shall experience the intellectual and day-to-day significance of romanticism in non-academic organizations and institutions. Practical elements in writer’s houses, museums, foundations, as well as in city marketing and arts journalism are intended to train transfer thinking. In order to ensure such a broad qualification, the Friedrich-Schiller-University funds three additional months of training and thereby actively supports the further development of practical modules during the Ph.D. training.
