Information management in hospitals comprises manifold tasks which have to be interconnected by mutual information exchange. Tasks, their interrelationships and needed information have to be collected systematically and to be presented in a comprehensible way. This presentation is needed to support the collaboration of CIO and hospital´s executive board and education in information management. Presenting some key performance indicators will not be sufficient for satisfying the information needs of CIO and board. Moreover they need precise information on how the information system aligns with the hospital´s strategic goals. A business analysis software for networked information management could help to provide the needed data. A lot of approaches address the diversity of tasks and information exchange from their special points of view, but do not provide sufficiently formal models. Such models, especially semantic networks, are a precondition for a software tool for networked information management and could support education. Using our experiences in information management in hospitals, in modeling hospital information systems and in software engineering a theoretically and empirically founded and tested semantic network of information management in hospitals (Semantisches Netz des Informationsmanagements im Krankenhaus (SNIK)) is aim of the project. Therefore existing approaches of information management shall be analyzed and conceptualized. Identified concepts shall be instantiated by an empirical survey. Based on SNIK a teaching unit will be developed. Additionally a prototype of the software CIO-Navigator (CION) shall be realized and tested. CION shall support CIO and executive board in navigating through information management.
