The ability to secure citizens’ and companies’ access to international financial and payment infrastructures has become a central dimension of political security and sovereignty as well as geopolitical power. Governments and commercial firms cooperate in the development of new digital financial and payment infrastructures, thus transforming geopolitical hegemonies. The project investigates the articulation and current modification of understandings of political and political-economic security with a view to cooperation among central banks and companies of the digital economy, focusing on European, Russian and Chinese actors and institutions.
