The project is a comparative investigation of competitive personnel decisions for key public sector roles, in France with particular emphasis on the concours for admission to the ENS and for auditeur posts at the Conseil d'État, in Britain on "Class I" civil service examinations. It is particularly interested in the contrast between the relative stability of French procedures across political caesuras and British skepticism regarding the validity of examination results.
