Mechanical, electrical and information engineering cooperate within mechatronics. Mechatronics is characterized by high heterogeneity and cross-linking of integrated areas of expertise. These aspects combined with high innovation speed and short development and product lifecycles lead to high complexity and hence to high risks regarding the fulfilling of time-, cost- and quality-related goals. For a profitable product development interdisciplinary teams have to make decisions in early design phases regarding product concept cost structures.Challenges are hereby especially the missing cost analysis methods and the so far only abstract examination of structures without cost-basis.The lack of transparency of mechatronic product cost emergence shall be overcome by a methodical cost-analysis and cost-optimization guideline. The methodology is based on the identification and systematic use of relevant product structures. Structures and their characteristics shall be evaluated, adapted and actively designed. Finally, the complete approach shall be verified and validated regarding different hypothesis.
