Tool Spindle with replaceable rotormodules

Subject Area Metal-Cutting and Abrasive Manufacturing Engineering
Term from 2013 to 2017
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 241649608

The goal of this six year research project is the development of a novel small high-frequency tool spindle with multifunctional, replaceable machining and measurement modules. The high-frequency tool spindle has to be integrated in a desktop sized machine tool with dimensions well below 1 m², collectively developed by the SPP subproject partners. Within this machine system it is in a first step possible to manufacture micro components, by using several production processes and in a second step to measure the manufactured microstructures. Thereby reclamping operations of the micro component will be dispensed as well as the influence of chucking errors and handling problems. In the second funding period the multifunctionality of the already developed high-frequency tool spindle will be increased by developing new rotor modules. Additional the development of a spindle family will be used to enlarge the functional boundaries of the existing system. For data coupling with the machine control and other subprojects, the characteristic properties of the individual rotor modules and components should be stored in a microcontroller, integrated in the tool changer and the tool spindle. Furthermore the developed high-frequency spindles and its components should be provided for the project partners in the SPP 1476. The functionality of the machining system will be significant increased by using the synergy of manufacturing and following measurement of the micro components and structures.
