Project Details
Development of modelling approaches for fluid-particle interactions in turbulent flow by direct particle-fluid simulations (B02)
Subject Area
Fluid Mechanics
Term
since 2013
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 215035359
Accurate and robust particle-fluid interaction models with focus on non-spherical biomass particles, where all scales of the particle-fluid interaction including the particle boundary layers and wakes are fully resolved, are developed and applied. The injection-like setup of a turbulent round jet is investi-gated for varying particle geometries. A novel data base is established and subsequently used to develop accurate modelling approaches to facilitate a reliable prediction of the particle dynamics, the flow modulation, and the particle-fluid heat exchange in the system-scale combustion furnace.
