Project Details
Resources and the formation of societies, settlement areas and cultural identities of the Italian peninsula in the 1st millennium BC (C03)
Subject Area
Classical, Roman, Christian and Islamic Archaeology
Term
since 2013
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 215859406
The project uses the concept of resource as the basis for the formation and transformation of social groups in order to analyse the social and cultural identities of two settlement areas of the Italian peninsula of the 1st millennium B.C. in a way that is fundamentally new for the fields of research. Cultural contexts of the spaces of the Etruscan cities on the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Greek cities on the Tyrrhenian and Ionian Seas will be considered comparatively. The focus is on identity-building practices with monuments and objects in ritual or sacred contexts, but in social spaces of lower scale than those of the usual supposedly homogeneous state or ethnic units.
