Modules for flow sheet simulation (FSS) of separation and precipitation inside electrostatic precipitators are implemented into the framework developed within the SPP1679. Hereby, numerical and experimental particle analysis derive precipitation and redispersion functions, that allow scaling based on process parameters, geometry variation and material properties. In the first and second phases of the project, application of model materials (Ulmer Weiß and Pural NF) demonstrated material dependent dynamic precipitation. Microscope analysis of representative samples extracted from the separation wall of the precipitator revealed unequal surface structures for these materials. Ulmer Weiß builds a time independent smooth surface while Pural NF layers roughen continuously throughout the process. Simulative results display the particle reliant effective electric field and its influence on the separation curve. These fields change their amplitude and form according to the electrode design. The macroscopic FSS model matches the CFD separation curves by including an effective field parameter for each geometry. In the projects third period in focus are facility dynamics and scaling to industrial facility sizes, material systems and climatic conditions. The flow sheet process model is extended, whereby internal process dynamics are represented by particle re-entrainment from layers. The derived process modules are implemented into the frame work developed in the course of the SPP 1679 (Z project). The model should show that dynamic separation processes are representable in FSS by functions of facility, process conditions and material.
