The funCOS Coordination Project will provide support for successful and efficient work of the research unit. Specifically, funCOS CP will aim at (1) promoting and supporting young researchers by actively connecting education and state-of-the-art research for coworkers and young researchers at all levels of their career, (2) supporting gender equality in close coordination with the activities of the University and other coordinated research programs, (3) strengthening efficient information exchange by helping to establish and maintaining efficient communication structures between the participating research groups at all levels, (4) optimizing efficient use of resources, thus reducing the overall costs of the project, (5) attracting and collecting external expertise at the international level, and (6) supporting dissemination of results and public relations thus strengthening the research profile of the university and promoting its visibility as a leading research center in the field. Towards the above goals several measures and programs will be implemented. The latter include (a) integration of project-related research topics into teaching at the level of Master programs, (b) offering student research assistantships to integrate excellent students into research at an early stage of their career, (c) offering graduate courses, seminar programs, and international research visits to provide a solid basis of interdisciplinary education and insight into the current state of research, (d) providing special support for excellent young researchers that consider pursuing a career in science, (e) providing full access to all programs supporting gender equality, (f) fostering cooperation and information exchange at the level of the PhD students by organizing PhD student workshops and regular discussion events, (g) building up new international networks and supporting dissemination by organizing international workshops, inviting world leading experts, and providing up-to-date public information via its website. Furthermore, (h) full support is provided to the participating groups concerning the acquisition of the required specialty chemicals including those, which are not available commercially. Several of the above listed key activities will be organized by a (i) designated coordinator, who is also a central contact person in the research unit. Thus the funCOS Coordination Project aims at generating a research environment that inspires creative research, maximizes synergies between complementary approaches, and boosts the development of young and established researchers, thereby strengthening and promoting the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg as a leading competence center in an emerging research field.
