On the basis of Georg Wickram’s multifaceted oeuvre this project will explore, on the one hand, to what extent one can identify shifts in the discourses relevant for defining the concept of leisure (especially in the areas of religion, time and economy) and, on the other hand, how leisure can be used as a heuristic category to illustrate potential shifts in these discourses. The material is likely to lead to systematic insights into the relationship between leisure and economy; for Wickram’s writings pro-mote the attention to economic success as well as ‘walking’ through real places, such as gardens, or metaphorically through books.
