The aim of the research program is the selective generation of molecular complexity in a single step from simple starting materials with our biocompatible calcium catalyst. Therefore, different types of cyclization cascade reactions shall be developed based on first results that have been achieved within our work group. These start out with the defined generation of reactive cations from proelectrophiles, followed by the nucleophilic attack of multiple bonds and equivalents thereof. Various terminating processes finally lead to the formation of the products. For a deeper understanding of the intrinsic stereoselectivities of these carbokation cascade reactions, that have been remarkable in the first results we obtained, quantum-chemical calculations shall be performed. With this new knowledge the way shall be paved for a specific design of stereoselective carbocation cascades in the future.
