A non-linear mechanistic circulation model of the middle atmosphere will be used to analyse the focing mechanisms of the terdiurnal tide in the middle atmosphere. the used model MUAM (Middle and Upper Atmosphere Model) includes a full radiation parameterization scheme, and is therefore capable to reproduce the terdiurnal as well as other solar tides. To analyse the forcing mechanisms, possible souces of terdiurnal tide forcing will be removed in the model runs. These mechanisms will be direct forcing through the 8-hour component of the diurnal solar focing, and nonlinear interaction of the diurnal and semidiurnal tide, represented by the advection terms in the momentum equations. Through comparison with reference runs we will be able to estimate the relative contribution of the differnt forcing terms to the full tidal forcing. The work will be completed by radar and satellite data analyses.
