Cytoskeletal self-organization and cell signalling (A01)

Subject Area Statistical Physics, Nonlinear Dynamics, Complex Systems, Soft and Fluid Matter, Biological Physics
Term from 2013 to 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 200049484

Cells respond to external signals, which often induce cell polarization through a rearrangement of the cytoskeleton. How cytoskeletal proteins participate in signal processing is largely unknown. Cytoskeletal self-organization might play an important role in this process. Employing physical descriptions, we will study cytoskeletal dynamics and its functional implications for signaling during cell migration. In particular, we will investigate spontaneous cytoskeletal waves and explore their consequences for migration in 3d. In collaboration with A2 and A9, we will apply our methods to the migration of immune cells.
