Project Details
Genetic Modulators of Serum Adipokine Concentrations (C01+)
Subject Area
Endocrinology, Diabetology, Metabolism
Term
from 2013 to 2017
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 209933838
Adipokines are a critical element linking obesity with obesity-related complications such as insulin resistance, dyslipidemia and steatohepatitis. This project will investigate if in addition to well-known anthropometric markers genetic factors determine adipokine release from adipose tissue. Using genome wide association studies (GWAS) with adipokine concentrations (vaspin, chemerin, asprosin and progranulin) and a Meta-GWAS, the projects seeks to identify genes and polymorphisms potentially regulating adipokine expression and secretion. These will be studied functionally in collaboration with the entire CRC. In addition, interaction with insulin resistance, insulin release, markers of obesity and fat distribution will be studied.
