Complete study of laser induced ionization and dissociation of atomic many-body systems

Subject Area Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Term from 2012 to 2015
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 227385482

In the proposed project we try to exploit the opportunities inherent in the mixed quantum classical non-adiabatic quantum molecular dynamics (NA-QMD) method developed in Dresden during the last 15 years. To this end many-electron and/or polyatomic systems under strong laser pulses shall be investigated with the prime target being the simultaneous and full dimensional study of the dissociation and ionization mechanisms ("complete" study), and, if available, comparison with experimental data. It is planned to extend our previous complete studies of the benchmark system H2+ to polyatomic many-electron systems, like H3+, for which recent ground-breaking experimental results for laser induced ionization and dissociation exist, but no theoretical calculations beyond purely classical ones are available. In parallel, the ultimate goal in the completion of the NA-QMD formalism, to include quantum effects in the nuclear motion, shall be pursued and applied to atomic many-body systems.
