Project Details
Pulse Detonation Combustion at Gas Turbine Conditions (A01)
Subject Area
Hydraulic and Turbo Engines and Piston Engines
Term
from 2012 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 200291049
The pulse detonation combustor (PDC) multi tube test rig will be the central combustor for integration into the demonstrator. First, a turbine is attached to the PDC via a custom-made plenum to allow for investigations on the influence of operation parameters on the pressure fluctuations inside the plenum and the power generated by the turbine. To ensure efficient refilling of the combustion tubes as well as to minimize pressure fluctuations at the compressor outlet, a suited inlet geometry is designed and validated experimentally. Furthermore, the combustion efficiency inside the detonation front is determined to assess the potential of the PDC to increase the thermal efficiency of a gas turbine.
