Project Details
Priming of elm and pine defence against herbivores (B01)
Subject Area
Organismic Interactions, Chemical Ecology and Microbiomes of Plant Systems
Term
from 2012 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 190578797
Project B1 focuses on priming of elm and pine anti-herbivore defences. The project investigates by molecular and chemical methods how egg deposition by herbivorous insects primes plant defence against hatching larvae. A comparison of elm and pine priming mechanisms will elucidate the species-specificity of the processes. In pine, the project will further investigate how exposure of the tree to insect sex pheromones primes the tree’s defence against insect eggs. A comparison of egg-mediated priming of defence against larvae and pheromone-mediated priming of defence against insect eggs will elucidate how specifically different cues, which prime anti-herbivore defences, are acting.
