This project aims at using ICD as a highly selective tool to create two charges on two neighboring atom in a cluster and to study the cluster dynamics driven by these charges. We will use a powerful multiparticle coincidence technique to measure mass, energy and direction of the charged cluster fragments together with energy and direction of the ICD electron and the photo/auger electron. The excitation/ionization which initializes ICD will be done in two ways: by direct photoionization/exciation and via resonant Auger decay where an inner shell electron is excited to a bound state. This resonant Auger (RA)-ICD cascade process has never been studied before; it is the topic of the theory proposal by Gokhberg/Cederbaum. We will use pure He and Ne clusters as well as mixed rare gas clusters at varying cluster sizes. This will provide a picture of the cluster dynamics and the modifications of the ICD process by the environment, which is unprecedented in completeness and detail.
