Thermally labile solids can be considered as the largest group of currently missing or unknown compounds. Within the framework of this project, we attempt to prepare and to identify new compounds of this category, which may be considered in the gap between coordination chemistry and solid-state chemistry. Experiments will depart from solid state metathesis (SSM) reactions that have been successfully applied to prepare solid state compounds containing anions such as L = (BN2)3-, (CN2)- or (OCN)- (or its trimeric (O3C3N3)3- form). Compounds with these anions are establsihed with several environments with cations, for compositions A-M-L with an electropositive cation A, and M being a main group or transition metal. Among them we will develop halide (X) containing A-M-X compounds closely related to (CH3NH3)PbI3, and derivative A-M-X-L systems in which X = Cl, Br, I, N, S, Se, or Te. Compounds in these systems are accessible by SSM reactions from MX and AL compounds under moderate reaction conditions, controlled and analysed by thermoanalytical measurements (DTA, DSC). The new solid-state coordination compounds will be prepared, structurally characterized, and investigated for properties (e.g. photoluminescence).
