Project Details
Energy efficient cleaning and dry machining (B02)
Subject Area
Metal-Cutting and Abrasive Manufacturing Engineering
Term
from 2012 to 2016
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 199828953
The internally-cooled turning tool and the dry-ice blasting wheel have a very positive impact on the environmental and social dimensions of sustainability. Thus, a multifunctional cutting tool with closed internal cooling system and energy harvesting system will be developed and tested in the second funding period. This technological prototype shall produce electricity by utilising the waste heat generated by the cutting process. Furthermore, the intended low-residue cleaning with high pressure CO2 jets focuses on removing highly adhesive residues, thin film coatings or chemically altered surface areas.
