Project Details
Gas-Phase Investigations of Synthetic Carbon Allotropes (Z01)
Subject Area
Chemistry
Term
from 2012 to 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 182849149
The project proposes the investigation of synthetic carbon allotropes (SCAs) in the gas phase by means of modern mass spectrometry. Complementary ionization methods (ESI, APPI und (MA)LDI) will be applied in conjunction with a range of tandem mass spectrometers. This allows the elucidation of structures, reactivities and the establishment of relative bond strengths. Research will focus on the investigation of fragmentation mechanisms of covalent fullerene derivatives, the elucidation of noncovalent interactions between SCAs and to selected metal ions, as well as laser-based analysis of graphene modifications and degradation products of photovoltaic relevance and the laser-induced creation of larger carbon architectures.
