The project A1 provides the material’s basis for three compound families (synthetic carbon allotropes – SCA) of the SFB, namely, 1) fullerenes, 2) carbon nanotubes and 3) graphene and their derivatives. The project is subdivided into three work packages (WPs). In WP1 the covalent functionalization and the topochemistry of SCAs is in the foreground. Both fundamental investigations of reaction mechanisms and the synthesis of highly integrated materials will be targeted. WP2 is devoted to the non-covalent functionalization of SCAs and in WP3 we will explore the field of inter-SCA architectures approaching the new concept of all carbon technology.
