The first goal of project A4 is to develop ligands for the solution-based, surface-selective functionalization of inorganic semiconductor nanostructures with self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of covalently attached organic molecules. A combination of quantum-mechanical and thermodynamic simulations will be employed to predict stoichiometry, structure, and properties of such systems. The second goal is to predict the properties of multi-functional SAMs that allow dynamically changing the energy-level alignment and mutual electronic coupling between inorganic and organic semiconductor components at a hybrid interface.
