Project Details
Integrated Research Training Group “Polymers: random coils and beyond” (MGK)
Subject Area
Experimental and Theoretical Physics of Polymers
Term
from 2011 to 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 189853844
The Integrated Research Training Group (iRTG) provides a structured doctoral training, leading to an additional certificate of performance, granted on the basis of credited course work and competitive and controlled quality requirements in research training. Realizing that modern trends in polymer science can only be tackled with proper command of the underlying basics, and considering the interdisciplinary character of the work spanning synthesis of polymers, their physical characterization and theoretical efforts, the iRTG establishes a broad polymer-science background, enabling communication between the doctoral students and prepares them for the challenges of their future career. The iRTG brings together the educational expertise of the partner universities Halle and Leipzig in soft-matter science, and supplements it with visiting scholars in a framework of specifically designed advanced training modules, workshops and presentations, supplemented by courses addressing complementary skills, career options and a broader academic scope. The alumni network with annual meetings provides a platform for contacts and exchange between former and current members.
