In the main focus of this interdisciplinary project are inscriptions that have been carved in stone in order to permit long-term display, and set up in public or semi-public locations in the cities of the Mediterranean region in antiquity and the Middle Ages. The project will be divided into four sub-projects which will concentrate on central premises of the CRC, from the materiality of the objects under examination and the topology of their arrangement within urban and sacred space, to their perception and reception, as well as the reuse of the inscribed artefacts in secondary contexts.
