Project Details
Crystallization and cooperativity in dynamic supramolecular polymers (A03)
Subject Area
Preparatory and Physical Chemistry of Polymers
Term
from 2011 to 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 189853844
We investigate the structure formation of biomimetic synthetic macromolecules from either the melt state or the solution state, aiming to understand folding and assembly principles between different segments of a polymer molecule. In the new funding period complex, artificial biomimetic elements will be synthesized by repetitive placement within a synthetic polymer chain, able to adopt specific conformations, dynamically changing from folded (e.g. α-helix, β- fold) to unfolded conformations. The proposed synthetic macromolecules are structurally placed between biological macromolecules and purely synthetic molecules, allowing to understand basic structure-formation and nucleation processes of partially unfolded macromolecules.
