The Legitimation of Inequalities: Structural Conditions of Justice Attitudes over the Lifespan (A06)
Subject Area
Sociological Theory
Term
from 2011 to 2016
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 138713964
A6 is based on two central questions: (i) why and under which conditions are inequalities subject to considerations of (in)justice, and (ii) how does the embedment in different social contexts (house-holds, social networks, work organizations) effect perceptions of (in)justice and related justice attitudes over the life span. In pursuing these questions A6 will collect different types of data (second wave of a longterm panel, experimental and qualitative data) that will be analyzed in three lines of research: The first line focuses on how membership in work organizations and occu-pational groups affect social comparison processes and the justice evaluation of wages; the second concentrates on the dynamics of justice attitudes and asks for the social conditions of stability or change in justice attitudes over the life span; and the third studies different inequality-generating mechanisms and asks under which conditions they generate inequalities that are perceived as just.
