A1 investigates the role of individual heterogeneities in form of noncognitive traits, measures of agency, and risk and time preferences in the stratification process. The project will analyze a) how noncognitive traits affect life chances during adolescence and early adulthood, b) how different social contexts and the national context impact the development and stratification of noncognitive traits, c) which time spans during the early life course are particularly important in the develop-ment of noncognitive traits, d) whether the link between social origin and later life course out-comes is mediated and moderated by noncognitive traits. Empirically, project A1 will apply longi-tudinal and multilevel analyses based on household panel data from the German Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP), Families in Germany (FID), and the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID).
