Project Details
Turnover and recycling of the peptidoglycan-teichoic acid complex of Gram-positive cell wall (A15)
Subject Area
Metabolism, Biochemistry and Genetics of Microorganisms
Term
from 2011 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 32152271
Our goal is to establish the turnover and recycling metabolism of the peptidoglycan-wall teichoic acid (PG-WTA) complex in Bacillus subtilis. We aim to answers the following questions: (i) which fragments are released from the cell wall at the different stages of the cell cycle (elongation, cell division/separation) as well as during spore formation, (ii) which transport proteins and pathways are used to import and reutilize (recycle) these compounds, and (iii) how is cell wall autolysis and recycling regulated, and are particular PG-WTA turnover products used to monitor the state of the cell wall or to time the cell cycle?
