Project Details
Elucidation of the unique conjugative DNA-translocation machinery of mycelial streptomycetes by biochemical analysis and real time imaging (A13)
Subject Area
Metabolism, Biochemistry and Genetics of Microorganisms
Term
from 2011 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 32152271
Streptomycetes developed a unique conjugative DNA-transfer system. In a process derived from the segregation of chromosomal DNA during bacterial cell division, a double-stranded DNA molecule is translocated and subsequently distributed to the mycelial compartments of the recipient. By reconstituting the DNA-transfer apparatus in vitro and by real time imaging of the DNA-transfer, we aim to elucidate the molecular processes directing Streptomyces conjugation.
