SFB 1026: Sustainable Manufacturing - Shaping Global Value Creation
Subject Area
Mechanical and Industrial Engineering
Term
from 2012 to 2016
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 199828953
The manufacturing sector, as a globally significant stakeholder in many of the areas of human liv-ing, has the chance to shape the future predominating technologies and to play a great role in shift-ing the global economy towards sustainable value creation. The Collaborative Research Centre 1026 ¿Sustainable Manufacturing ¿ Shaping Global Value Creation¿ intends to provide sustainable manufacturing solutions whose positive direct and indirect effects on the triple bottom line of sus-tainability are scientifically demonstrated. The interplay of disciplines within the CRC 1026 com-bines the depth of exemplary implementation of production technologies and the breadth of the systemic analysis of their sustainability. At the core of the approach of the CRC 1026 is the devel-opment and physical realisation of new promising manufacturing processes and equipment (B2-5, B8). Building on these exemplary technological solutions, the CRC 1026 develops methods for de-cision making that allows integrating technologies in technical systems (B1, A5, B7, C4) and value creation networks (A1, A3 B6, C1, 2, C6) in a sustainable way. The broad and long-term implemen-tation of sustainable manufacturing solutions is finally addressed through macroeconomic and knowledge dissemination approaches (A2, A4, A7, C5, INF, PA). In the second funding period, the results achieved in the first funding period together with the gained interdisciplinary under-standing will allow for the theoretical foundation of an integrated sustainable manufacturing frame-work. The aim of this framework is to deliver a standard and comprehensive solution allowing targeted stake-holders of value creation to consider systematically sustainability in manufacturing activities. At the same time, solutions developed in the first funding period will be further improved according to iden-tified potentials. This phase of further refinement is meant to be supported by increased interaction with external partners, notably in emerging countries.
