The DFG Priority Programme “Cell compartments as places of pathogen-host interaction” will provide a platform for scientists interested in the biogenesis of compartments containing pathogens or model particles in various animal cell systems. The particular advantage of this programme is the anticipated participation of groups with cell biological and others with infection biology expertise. Central points of this Programme are the exchange of junior scientists between laboratories and their further education in training programmes organized by different members of the Programme for which funding is requested here. In addition, attendance of at least one advanced-level workshop per person per granting period (3 years) is expected and, again, funding is sought. Additionally, two scientific conferences are planned during the 2011-2014 funding period: A national one in 2012 with all Programme-funded scientists and all successful applicants plus a few external renowned invited speakers presenting their work. A presentation day only for junior scientists will follow this meeting. In 2013, an international meeting on “2nd International Conference on Intracellular Niches of Pathogens”, supported by the DFG, is planned to take place. Finally, support for administrative issues is sought.
