Deformation and Fracture of Specimens with Structured Surfaces (B04)

The aim of the project in the third funding period will be to evaluate possibilities to avoid the often observed reduced cyclic loadability due to micro notches. Therefore, two different treatments have to be established to modify the surface region of parts, which is sensitive to cyclic crack initiation and failure, without changing the geometrical structure of the surface. With those treatments the fatigue strength of microstructured parts shall be increased at least at that level which it had before geometrical structuring.
