Project Details
Registration of the filtration efficiency of active and reactive filter materials in contact with metal melts with the aid of a metal casting simulator (C01)
Subject Area
Metallurgical, Thermal and Thermomechanical Treatment of Materials
Term
from 2011 to 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 169148856
Within the third funding period investigations of combined refining approaches based on environmental friendly carbon bonded reactive filters will take place; after the treatment in the crucible the left cluster of inclusions which were not removed due to the buoyancy forces will be filtrated with the aid of active filters. Further the registration of clogging phenomena of reactive filters based on oxide additions with higher reactivity such as calcium aluminates will be systematically investigated. By the use of four different procedural methods the kinetic of deposition efficiency as well as the formation of reaction zones in contact with in situ formed endogenous inclusions containing steel melts will be studied thoroughly. A new focus will be the refining of steel scrap according to copper with the aid of functional filter coatings based on Al2O3-ZnO-C und Al2O3-ZnO-Al.
