Project Details
The Interstellar Medium and Star Formation in nearby Galaxies (A03)
Subject Area
Astrophysics and Astronomy
Term
from 2011 to 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 184018867
Project A3 studies the properties of the star-forming-active interstellar medium in nearby galaxies, where the spatial resolution and/or the known morphology and kinematical structure allow resolving the (AGN or starburst) core and disk structure as well as individual regions of star forming activity. By combining the study of these different environments, observed in the major submm and FIR cooling lines and dedicated chemical species, we will explore star forming activity as a function of the UV-field, gas density and metallicity in a systematic way, supported by the appropriate excitation-, shock- and PDR-modelling.
