Function and dynamics of RNP granules during neuronal development and disease (P01)

Subject Area Cell Biology
Term from 2011 to 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 180879236

Project P1 investigates RNA-protein (RNP) granules as dynamic, cytosolic and non-membranous assemblies, which are involved in the regulation of translation and mRNA stability. As a microcompartment with properties of liquid droplets they are kept together by multivalent interactions. In the next funding period, the group will (i) analyze the switch in the material state of RNP granules to a potential diasease-causing state, (ii) identify conditions and factors, which are involved in such a transition, and (iii) establish imaging methods to analyze the distribution and dynamics of tau mRNA in RNP granules of living neurons.
