Project Details
Structural investigations of modules involved in protein homeostasis (B07)
Subject Area
Structural Biology
Term
from 2011 to 2018
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 25065445
The a-crystallin and Hsp70/40/110 modules are required to maintain protein homeostasis in cells; dysfunctions lead to disease. Research on aB crystallin focuses on the structural properties of functional complexes and the activation mechanism. First experiments on the Hsp70/40/110 module will address the structures of Hsp40/J-proteins in complex with Hsp70 and Hsp110. Furthermore the DNP technology will be applied to investigate nascent chains in arrested ribosomes and their interactions with the signal recognition particle (SRP). On the long run, the attachment of the ribosome/SRP complex to the membrane will be studied.
