Interactions between Cold Atoms and Nanostructures (C10#)
Subject Area
Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Term
from 2011 to 2013
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5486344
We aim to study hybrid quantum systems with high performance computer simulations. Specifically we will address two unresolved problems: the theoretical description of two-way coupling between cold atoms and solid devices, and the development of a finite temperature description of cold atoms which dynamically describes transitions to quantum states. In addressing these issues we will learn how control decoherence in hybrid systems and explore possibilities for new technology based on dynamic cooperation between quantum gases and nanostructures. We will also develop new theoretical tools for dealing with phase transitions to quantum states.
