The project is focused on the mechanisms underlying the formation of nanoscale spin and charge inhomogeneities and superstructures in complex magnetic oxides with coexistent or competing order parameters, in particular cobaltites and multiferroics. The effect of such inhomogeneities on the properties of these materials will be studied by different experimental techniques with a special emphasis on the oxygen isotope substitution, a method which is not widely accessible but very powerful for the phenomena under study. The studies will be carried out in the close collaboration with the Russian partners having a good expertise in the isotope effect.
