Project Details
Developing new adsorbents based on activated carbon by means of CVI infiltration of ceramic materials and characterisation of their adsorption properties under abrasive and and reactive conditions
Subject Area
Chemical and Thermal Process Engineering

Technical Thermodynamics
Term
from 2010 to 2018
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 183090525
The project aims to coat activated carbon with silicon or silicon carbide layers using chemical vapour infiltration. By this coating the resistance against abrasion and reactive chemicals is enhanced. In the first two project periods the feasibility of the new process was demonstrated and the produced materials have been characterised. In the final period the reactor concept should be scaled up in order to produce the adsorbents in a 100g scale. This is nessessary to investigate the adsorption properties under abrasive and reactive conditions similiar to industrial applications. Furthermore alternative aluminum based coatings will be studied.
