Dark states, coherent population trapping, and adiabatic transfer have been known as robust quantum phenomena in laser spectroscopy and quantum optics for a long time. These concepts have been generalized and transfered to electronic systems since roughly 10 years ago, but only very recently mesoscopic transport experiments in quantum dots have got very close to an experimental realisation. Still, in a solid state environment, dark state physics is still largely un-explored, in particular when it comes to systems where interactions among electrons have to be taken into account and one has to go beyond the single-particle picture. The goal of the present project is to systematically develop the theory of dark state physics in electronic systems, with a particular focus on quantum transport and many-body effects.
