Professor Dr. Hartmut Herrmann
Subject Area
Atmospheric Science
Term
from 2011 to 2014
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 175716437
It is planned to perform a 3-station ground-based Langrangian-type experiment on chemical aerosol-cloud interaction starting in late summer 2010 at Mt. Schmücke in Thuringia, Germany. While the overall project involves the IfT Leipzig with all its departments and collaborators from the UK, the USA and France, the present contribution seeking support from DFG aims to specifically work on the following scientific issues: (A) HCCT-AMS: To assess the effects of clouds on organic particle composition by fast, multiple AMS based field measurements, (B) HCCT-OVOC: To assess the effects of clouds on the phase partitioning of oxygenated volatile organic compounds including interfacial effects, and (C) HCCT-MODEL: To describe the effects of clouds on organic particle composition and gas phase oxidant budget by state-of-the-art multiphase modelling and comparison with field results. The measurements in the context of (A), (B) and (C) will be accompanied by a suite of auxiliary measurements on standard trace gases, VOCs, full particle chemistry and physics, radiation, flow tracers and meteorology carried out by the IfT.
