Project Details
Hydro-Mechanical Processes due to Mechanized Tunneling in Soft Clay Rock (A05)
Subject Area
Geotechnics, Hydraulic Engineering
Term
from 2010 to 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 77309832
Subproject A5 investigates interactions between changes of the physical and mechanical proper-ties of swelling (and thus problematic) clay rock, induced by the mechanized tunneling process itself, and the swelling behavior of the clay by means of numerical models, considering realistic mechanical and hydraulic boundary conditions, as well as laboratory experiments. A constitutive relationship will be developed, based on a series of experiments, to describe the swelling pressure in terms of the degree of saturation and the suction as state variables. Finally, methods of model adaption will be applied to reduce the complexity of the numerical models.
