RNA-protein-protein interactions of plant RNA editing factors

Applicant Professor Dr. Stefan Binder, since 3/2017
Subject Area Plant Genetics and Genomics
Term from 2010 to 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 171396008

The RNA editing process in mitochondria and plastids of plants requires several protein components for efficient alteration of specific C nucleotides to U in target RNAs. PPR proteins are identifying factors for a unique RNA sequence motif near single or few editing sites. Each of the MORF proteins affect numerous sites, but their precise function is still enigmatic. This project aims to analyze RNA-protein and protein-protein interactions between the target RNAs, the PPR and the MORF proteins to better define their respective function and their cooperation in the editosome. Furthermore, protein-protein interactive searches will be employed to search for additional components of the editosome in Arabidopsis thaliana including the still unknown enzymatic activity.
