Biological and Biomimetic Chemistry
Term
from 2010 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 34509606
During the third application phase this project will investigate the significance of secondary metabolites produced by Phaeobacter inhibens for its interaction with the diatom Thalassiosira rotula. Analysis of the T. rotula genome by the TRR51 consortium and subsequently comprehensive studies on the interaction of P. inhibens and the diatom will be performed. Mutants negative for production of tropodithietic acid or quorum sensing will be compared to the wild type for their competition capabilities during bacterial colonization of the diatom. Furthermore, different physiological states of the diatom will be considered, concerning the influence on mutualism or parasitism by the bacteria.
