Project Details
Distribution, metabolic capacities and phage-host interactions of the Roseobacter group in marine sediments (A02)
Subject Area
Microbial Ecology and Applied Microbiology
Term
from 2010 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 34509606
This project will study so far unknown benthic roseobacters from various metagenomic data sets and define them as new benthic clusters with specific functional profiles. Further, isolates from cruises to the Pacific in 2017 will be genome sequenced to identify specific features for life in benthic habitats. Another aspect addresses the role of phages for benthic roseobacters. Phage-induction experiments will be performed to determine characteristic parameters for phage-host interactions. We will also search for roseophage-specific signatures in the metagenomes from Pacific sediments and quantify their distribution in original sediment samples by qPCR using phage-specific primers.
